NIJ Saga: Famuyiwa Damilare finally clears the air...

Student-Journalist, Famuyiwa Damilare finally speaks out regarding recent news aired and published by various media houses concerning an issue between him and his coursemate, Korede Bello.

Both students who school at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, have been in the news in the past few days, concerning a story that was reported by the media, that Famuyiwa was failed and scored low in his last semester examination by the Institution because of a news he published on his blog, naijanewsroom.com some months back about a Lecturer who allegedly vowed to resign if Korede Bello was allowed to write exam, if he doesn't meet up with the 70% attendance mandatory for all students.

Damilare who is also a blogger, through a writeup, distance himself from the stories reported by some blogs and Silverbird TV, stating clear that
there isn't any problem between him and Korede Bello, “For the records, Korede Bello is a friend, colleague and partner in progress, and I have nothing whatsoever against him".

He said it was important that he dispel the news making wrongs due to recent events within the school.

Damilare further stated that, “In addition, I would like to appeal to fellow students to desist from dragging my name into any publication, whether real or imagined, in expressing their rights to air their views."

He however asked that he should be left alone to concentrate on his studies, as that is the reason he is at NIJ. Also advising fellow students, “Finally, I urge all students to work towards creating a positive image within and outside for this great Institute of ours."

Below is Famuyiwa Damilare's response to the issue....

“BEFORE THINGS GET OUT OF HANDS…
Recent events at our institution have made it necessary for me to write and dispel the false impression making the rounds about me, a fellow colleague and class mate of mine, Korede Bello.

For the records, Korede Bello is a friend, colleague and a partner in progress and I have nothing personal whatsoever against him.
We spent two years together at the National Diploma level at this same institution and on many occasions, he had granted me interviews, one of which could be found on the centre spread of The Nation Newspaper of March 1st 2015, with the headline, “Korede Bello: I would Have Been An Accountant or Footballer.”

Korede Bello remains a friend and someone I relate with without any form of prejudice or grudge.
In addition, I would want to appeal to fellow students to desist from dragging my name into any publications, whether real or imagined, in expressing their rights to air their views.
I am at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism to concentrate on my academics and that remains my primary objective. So, it would be appreciated if my quest for knowledge is being respected.

Once again, I am using this medium to wash my hands off the recent publications that went viral as regards the school credibility, myself and Korede Bello.
Finally, I urge all students to work towards creating a positive image within and outside for this great institute of ours.
God bless NIJ."
