Tosin and Suspect Ogundele

The tragic incident of Sunday, April 24, was one that the family of Ashinwo, did not see coming.
Had a prophet told Oluwatosin, her siblings and their widow mother, of the danger that lurked around the corner that day, it is unlikely they would have believed it.
In fact, months after they all knew 45-year-old David Ogundele, an engineer, who was deeply obsessed with 30-year-old Oluwatosin, they had no idea they had a killer on their hands.
But it is late to regret; Oluwatosin is dead after being stabbed multiple times by Ogundele along with her mother, who was trying to ward off the attack on her daughter in a flat she rented at Tanke area of Ilorin, Kwara State.
As of the time of filing this report, Oluwatosin’s mother was still in intensive care at  a hospital in Ilorin where she had undergone a round of surgery to repair the extensive damage caused by the knife attack on her body.

In fact, one of Oluwatosin’s brothers, told Punchng that

Court sentence woman to 100 years in prison

A judge in Colorado has sentenced a woman to 100 years in prison for cutting an eight-month-old baby from a stranger’s womb with kitchen knives, local media reported.
The sentence included the maximum penalties for attempted murder and unlawful termination of a pregnancy, which Judge Maria Berkenkotter said on Friday reflected the brutality of last year’s attack.

A jury in February found Dynel Lane guilty of attempting to kill Michelle Wilkins by beating, stabbing and choking her after luring her to her home by posting an advertisement for maternity clothes on Craigslist, the online classified listings service.
Prosecutors could not charge Lane with murdering the baby because a coroner found no evidence it had survived outside the womb.

Lane, 36, had faked a pregnancy for months, deceiving her husband David Ridley, whom she had told would be the baby’s father.

NFF should apologise and recall Vincent Enyeama to Super Eagles - Taribo West

Former Nigeria defender, Taribo West, has called for the return of goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama to the Super Eagles.
The 33-year-old  Lille keeper  retired from the national team following a disagreement  with former  Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh.

Enyeama was  during the week ranked the sixth best goalkeeper in the world by football statistics body, CIES Observatory.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner was also nominated for the Best Goalkeeper  award in Ligue 1.

Taribo condemned the circumstances leading to Enyeama’s retirement from the Eagles, saying the  Nigeria Football Federation should plead with him to return to the national team.
“Nigeria is a country where heroes are not  appreciated and it is  painful,” the former Inter Milan player told our correspondent during the week.

“Nigerians should beg Enyeama to return to the Eagles and let him retire properly. He is the country’s most capped football player.  It is  evident that he still  has a lot to offer the country.
“The Eagles currently lack that leader figure among them and it is evident in the way they are playing. The young players  need to learn a lot from Enyeama. The awards and rankings he got this week  have shown  that he still very good.

“Also, apart from Joseph Yobo, who is planning a testimonial for himself with some corporate bodies, no  ex-international has been properly retired and they are all bitter towards the system.

The honest truth is I was in my bedroom when my friend walked into the room with a couple of other people and woke me up; and basically just started narrating what had happened. When someone wakes you up from sleep you… The honest truth, my first thought was I thought maybe they found him dead.

When they said they didn’t know where he was, my thought was, and everybody’s thought was, we need to find him. He’s suicidal, we need to find him, we need to make sure he’s alive and he’s well. Aso Rock: We are yet to be paid one year allowance - Security Operatives

dss

Some security operatives attached to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, are currently groaning under heavy debts as a result of the stoppage of their special allowance referred to as the Risk Cautious Allowance, It was learnt.

Under former President Goodluck Jonathan, all the security agents enjoyed the allowance up until March, 2015, while his administration left those of April and May, 2015, unpaid.
They have not been paid the monthly allowance since May 2015 when the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari came on board despite repeated promises made to them on the issue.

The security officers include those of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Intelligence Agency, the Federal Road Safety Commission and the Fire Service among others.
Some of the security operatives, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity on Tuesday, lamented that they had not been able to meet their various financial obligations because of the development.

They said despite this, authorities of the Presidential Villa kept introducing additional security measures that further tasked them daily.
A policeman told our correspondent that because of the non-payment of the allowance, some policemen, who could no longer afford increasing transport fares, had converted their beats to temporary homes.

“It is not easy! We can no longer cope with the increase in transport fare. Policemen are now passing the night at their beats. In the evening, you can go to Gate 4 and 5 among other spots in the Villa to confirm this,” he said.
Another operative, a soldier, said they were feeling the brunt of the non-payment of the allowance more because most of them were junior officers who collected far less than N50,000 monthly as salary.

“I could not pay the school fee of my daughter last term. Another term is starting soon. Most of us are junior officers with less than N50,000 as salary. We always augment our salary with this small allowance but they have denied us of it,” he lamented.
Another security operative said it was not fair for the authorities to remain silent in the face of the growing disquiet over the issue.

He said the right thing to do was for them to address the operatives on efforts being made to pay them and when the payment would be done.
He added that the last they heard on the matter was when the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, directed all operatives in the Presidential Villa to fill some forms running into about five pages.

He said not satisfied with the arrangement, heads of about two security agencies asked their men not to fill the forms.
He added, “Even if the idea was to ascertain that we are truly working in the Villa, I believe that photocopies of our identity tags should be enough for the exercise?
“How can the NSA ask that we should be filling forms that run into about five pages and yet, there is still nothing to show for it?

“If the Permanent Secretary of the State House can collect our account details and he paid N15,000 to us in lieu of Easter rice and other items within two weeks, what is delaying the NSA from paying our allowance?
“These are people who keep introducing new security measures to be implemented by disgruntled officers. Today, they will ask us to thoroughly search all vehicles coming in, tomorrow they will ask us to ensure that everybody fills access forms.”

Presidential spokesmen, Mr. Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu, were not available for comment on Tuesday as they were on the President’s entourage to China.
But a security expert, Mr. Mike Ejiofor, who spoke to our correspondent, took two different positions on the issue.

Ejiofor, who is a retired DSS official, agreed that security operatives, who guided the President or were on special postings, were entitled to special allowances which were meant to encourage them in order not to compromise or undermine their loyalty. Punchng learnt

He said, “People who guide the President or on special postings are entitled to special allowances to encourage them and to ensure that their loyalty is not undermined, or that they do not go about begging for money.
“I am not saying that they cannot be begging for money if they are paid this allowance, but the situation will be worse if they are not paid.

“But again, authorities may have their reasons for not paying this allowance, possibly because of the change agenda. If that is the case, the security operatives should also adapt.”
In the past, senior officers were said to be receiving about N30,000 per month as their special allowance while junior officers got about N25,000.

The hardest thing i've done is getting married — Dr. Sid

Mavin Records artiste, Sidney Esiri, who is popularly known as Dr. Sid, speaks about his career and marriage

The video of the single Surulere, was quite unique. What were you trying to achieve with the concept?

I was simply trying my hand at acting. I had already shot a film with Moses Inwang, titled The Last Six Digits. So, with Surulere, I wanted a fun video. Frank Donga and I were the lead actors and Donga’s facial expressions were spot on and hilarious. I call him the Nigerian Frank Spencer. We both came up with the concept and I planned for Oba Saheed Elegushi to play a cameo role in the video but it wasn’t possible.

You seem to have an inclination for dance songs…

My last album had a variety of songs like Chop Ogbonna and Surulere. I like to get my audience involved in my stage performances. I intend to direct more videos and that was why I attended a film school in order to pursue my passion in filmmaking. I also have a short film, which I released on YouTube. My goal is to make movies that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Do you think you have gotten to the stage where you can leave music for video directing?

Both industries are intertwined which means that I can make music and also come up with a creative concept for the video during my spare time.

Some say your songs sound alike. Do you agree?

I don’t think

Okonta, an orphan, who was shot dead by some unknown gunmen in Ahoada-West Local Government Area, served at Government Community Secondary School, Ukpeliede.

Dalung spoke during a condolence visit by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmmud Yakubu, to the headquarters of the NYSC.

The NYSC also threatened fire over the death of Okonta and other corps members, who sustained various degrees of injury, describing the murder as barbaric.

Dalung said, “Politicians aspire to hold public office because they want to develop Nigeria. In doing this, they are talking of protecting the lives of Nigerians. So, it is very bad that
