A baby boy was abandoned by an
unknown person inside a bush at college road, Ogba, Lagos.
According to an eye witness, who preferred to
be called Toyin, the baby who was found dead was dumped there at the early
hours of today, “The evil act could have been carried out in the midnight by
the mother”.
On how she found out about the incident, Toyin explained that it was around 7 am when
she put her child inside a kikenapep that she saw people gathering beside the
wall that demarcate the bush from the road. “The baby was just abandoned there
on the floor, it was a man that went down the bush to cover the baby’s body
with nylon, after which he prayed for the baby” Toyin added
Speaking to another witness, Agborun
Molontolu, a civil servant, he made it clear that this was not the first time
such incident will be happening, “We have been observing such before, and it
has been long, this should be the fourth time now. The first we carried was a
lively baby”.....[continue reading]
Mr. Molontolu advising on how
such act could be eradicated said, “We don’t have enough security, because I am
part of the local security myself at night, but it is not everybody that will
be able to come out and we can’t focus on this bush alone. So maybe the Police
should be patrolling this area”
“The government can also convert
the bush into fish pond and people will be working in the place, so there won’t
be such thing again”.
Yesterday, a swollen dead dog was
seen at the same spot, which is believed some people were trying to see today,
before they saw the baby’s body.
Meanwhile, when some witnesses
were asked if they contacted the Police immediately they noticed the baby’s
body. They said no, due to fear of indictment by the Police. “No we can’t. We
don’t want trouble, why don’t you call them; after all, you are Journalists”
the Carpenters whose shop is beside the scene said.
As of writing this report, the
Police are yet to visit the scene to attend to the situation, 2 hours after the
body was found.
The only Police officer seen in
the area just piped and left. When she was asked why she didn’t try to check on
the baby, the female officer who chooses to be anonymous said, “It is not in my
place to do that, I am a traffic officer. Area G has been notified and they are
on their way”.
But after putting a call through
to 911, the female Operator said they haven’t heard about it and that the
Police will act on information provided by the Reporter.
