In a recent interview on WhatsTrending, Nigerian film director and Actor, Kunle Afolayan, said that Nigerian students are one of the reasons piracy is growing and hard to fight.
The interview which was aired on Television Continental (TVC) on Sunday, saw the Multiple Award winning director vent about the level of piracy in Nigeria, the effect it has on film makers and the support of the government in eradicating piracy.
Speaking about the role Nigerian students play in the growth of piracy in Nigeria, Kunle Afolayan said, “When a movie comes out, the next thing you see is
the students sharing it among themselves. It maybe one movie, the students start sharing it on laptops, and phones."

The AMAA award winning director spoke of the one that baffle him the most, “There was a time I got a message from a student in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), who excitedly asked that she heard I am coming to their school to screen my movie, I said no I wasn't....
“Some OAU students made publicity of screening my movie through bbm and others. I mean they were about to screen a movie that I haven't released on DVD." He added
Stating that they had to involve the Police when the school authority said there was nothing they could do about it.

During the interview, he said a lot of money is spent to make his movies and he always have to go to the Bank for loan every time he wants to make film. Adding that “Even my wife tells me that, your mate are doing a movie of N10 million naira, you are doing a movie of N200 million naira."
The director popular for his multiple award winning movies, The Figurine and October 1, said the movie industry need the support of the government in order to apprehend and eradicate piracy, “I have heard twice now, that the current administration has plegde to help us, and I think that's a good thing." Kunle Afolayan said.
He told the host, Moses Omoghena, that he might not release his new film if the government doesn't help to fight piracy, “If the government doesn't give the go ahead, I might not release my new movie, ‘The CEO'." Afolayan said.

Meanwhile, Omoghena asked the father of four, that despite being a movie director, the people don't get to see his family in the spotlight, Afolayan replied “My wife is not one that love the attention. She's not the type that loves the red carpet that much. I mean I go out with my children more than my wife."

According to Kunle Afolayan, his new movie, ‘The CEO' featuring Angelique Kidjo and Wale Ojo, is scheduled for release by June/July.
